The C20 Summit 2022 emphasized that global solidarity is required to find and implement solutions to current world problems. But how can this solidarity be achieved? While narratives such as power balance, clash of civilizations, realistic conflict theory, etc., dominantly shape world views, there are also aspects that make our universe interconnected, interrelated and interdependent. Human society needs to unearth and align to this truth of existence, that is of the oneness of existence. Therefore, the logo of G20 for 2023 reiterates the age-old Indian wisdom of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ - One Earth, One Family, and One Future. Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam is not a utopian ideal. It can be considered as a universal maxim whose purpose is not imposition, but to enable mutual respect and evolve human consciousness and society.
Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam is the most practical way to ‘Recover Together, Recover Stronger’ as expressed by the C20 Indonesia 2022. It helps us move from an “I-Them” approach to an “I-We” approach. It also fosters a Dharma-based society where the strong protects the weak, where giving precedes taking and where rights and responsibilities are synchronous.
This C20 working group will deliberate and discuss the application of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam and other peace narratives that reinforce the unity of humanity. The working group will also explore paradigms of regenerative development, minimalism, conflict avoidance and environmental consciousness.
